A Teacher in the Eyes of a Student

When thinking of the word “teacher” what comes to our mind? A person who shares their knowledge to students right? That’s the literal meaning of that word, however what is a teacher through the eyes of a student? A teacher is a strong independent individual capable of handling different types of students, a teacher is smart who can understand and bring out the potential within, and a teacher is ready to open her heart for the students. A teacher is a compass to guide, a candle to light, and a mark to make things correct. And last but not the least, a teacher is someone you can lean on and support you to overcome obstacles and achieve great lengths.

However, in reality, there are instances that average students who lack self- confidence towards other students who excel. A teacher should make their learning environment cooperative and encourage them to improve and avoid competition that causes loss of self-esteem from the students. A teacher should also give the students the freedom to express their own strengths, every student is unique in their own ways. Nevertheless, they are limited to the shell they are locked in, and the teacher is the key for the shell to crack. A teacher who creates bridges to connect with students and other students because without a bridge there would be no connection. But at the end of the day, we all have different perspectives of what a teacher is. The question is, what defines a good teacher? someone knowledgeable? someone who has PhDs? or is it someone willing to understand the students?
